Double Burger

I occasionally get a Texas Double Whopper from BK (they are yummy) and then I got to thinking about homemade burgers. Specifically, making a double burger… but then that would be just obscene, since the burgers I usually make for our own grill are probably three times the size of a BK/McD patty anyway. Still, someday I know I will put two patties together.

Buying Clothes

One of the great things about when I lived in Japan was that all the stores had clothes that would actually fit me. Here in the states, it’s a lot harder to find the proper fit. I’d describe my body type as short n stocky, and I have found that if I want a pair of jeans that don’t drag on the floor, I need to get kids’ sizes. Mervyn’s actually has “husky” Levi’s that fit me, plus they are only $19 or so. But the Mervyn’s near me has closed, and so yesterday I find myself at the more well-known sister store, Target. I went looking for some long-sleeved t-shirts for my morning runs (it’s getting cooler here in TX) and I see they have them, at only $6.95. Alright, I think! But of course, the S size is frickin’ huge! What a waste, I think… and there is no way that shirt is going to shrink very much.

On the brighter side, the casual collared shirts fit me nicely (medium, even) so I have a place for those. I did end up buying a pair of Levi’s regular fit there, sized 31×30, and while they do drag on the floor when I am bare-footed, they look ok when I am wearing my boots. They have a decent “fall”, to use a term that my friend Billy mentions in his blog, and I like the dark-blue “new jeans” look. And surprisingly, they were only $19!

But what is up with the Levi’s sizing? I mean, when I was growing up in the 80’s, I wore 501’s all the time, and my size was 30×30 and the length was perfect after washing. That was kind of confusing but cool at the same time, because you had to get an inch bigger in the waist and two inches in length, and after you washed and dried them, they would become their true size. Sorta unique. Then there was the pre-shrunk era, when you could just try them on and know they would fit. I think that was when I couldn’t find any lengths that were short enough to fit me well. I heard that they stopped selling shorter jean sizes here in the states because people would buy a shitload of them and sell them abroad for a shitload of money. (hey, two uses of the S word in one sentence!) My belief is that they did the old switcheroo with their sizing standards right then. But now, a 30×30 is way too long, whereas it used to be perfect. Oh well… on a side note, I have never worn jeans that weren’t Levi’s. I love them.

Lovely iTunes 7

I really like iTunes 7. The album art flippy thing is really cool. The only lame part is that after I upgraded, all my song ratings have gone nuts. They have all rearranged themselves, seemingly randomly. My 5-star smart playlist is filled with random songs now… And there are songs that are rated with 1/2 increments, for instance 4.5 stars. How the heck did that happen? Oh well, I guess I will just clear all the ratings and start again… Oh, also, movie playback sucks now. It’s super choppy unless I playback in that little window in the corner of iTunes.

Don’t Know My Name

I always think it’s funny when people I am acquainted with but do not really know me see me and can’t remember my name. Then they always say “Hey buddy” or “Hey man”. But my favorite is when they say “Hi guy”. I will then mention that Guy is my father’s name, just to see what they say. They usually will laugh or say “really?” and then excuse themselves awkwardly.

If I can’t remember someone’s name that I should know, I will just say “Hi” and leave it at that.

Freedom Wings

I picked up Freedom Wings for the DS last week, and have been playing it quite a bit. It received a couple decent reviews, and was cheap, so I figured I’d give it a try. Right now I am just flying around in Auto mode, which includes dogfighting. With each air-pirate you shoot down, you gain xp and gold, which you can use to upgrade your plane with new weapons, armor, improve maneuverability, weight ratio, etc. It’s kinda fun, but it gets very repetitive. Also, the flying physics are kinda goofy. For instance, you can take off and immediately set the altitude and speed to max, and your plane will go straight up like a rocket. There are some missions you can do, and I just got my second plane, but I spent so much money on my first, I don’t want to just switch over. Anyways, we’ll see how fun it is in the long term… hopefully there will be more variation in the missions and less grinding out the gold and xp.

10:19

My Birthday is October 19th. It’s weird, but I often glance at the clock and it is 10:19. This happens at least a couple times a week. It just happened a little while ago. My internal clock is pretty good, I guess.
