Winter Olympics Schedule
Posted by Barron LivingSports & Exercise CommentsPermalink

You can add the 2010 Winter Olympics schedule to your calendar by going to this page on MarkThisDate.com. I added it to my Google Calendar and now I can keep track of all the events. If you use another calendar program, such as Outlook or iCal, you can find an appropriate schedule there as well. Very handy! Opening Ceremony is tonight, BTW!!!

Dorama Review - Kiina (LCi)

I’m not sure how I missed this dorama when it first aired, but I’m happy to have found it and watched the whole series in a couple days. (A couple long nights, actually) I’m a fan of Miho Kanno and thought she did a great job as Kiina, a detective who handles the odd cases that the regular detectives find either too goofy to take. Each episode is about a single case, usually involving some kind of supernatural angle, but ultimately is solved by some kind of scientific explanation. It’s pretty easy to figure out who the culprit is but the interesting part is how they explain how the crime was done. What makes Kiina (the character) special is that she has a photographic memory, and picks up on obscure clues throughout the investigation. She’s also very idealistic, and her partner serves as a counterbalance to her personality. It’s a pretty good dorama, and I recommend watching it. My only complaint was that the subplot involving the chief wasn’t very interesting, or the resolution of that subplot wasn’t as fulfilling as it could have been. But still, each episode is pretty fun to watch. Also, each episode features a different guest star who will be familiar to regular dorama viewers.

Everything But The Girl - Each and Every One
Posted by Barron CreativityFilm and VideoMusicLivingMemories CommentsPermalink

Everything But The Girl has been one of my favorite bands ever since high school. Ben Watt is such a fantastic musician and Tracey Thorn’s voice is amazing. I think I’ve seen them live a few times, but that was in the late 80’s/early 90’s… so long ago. These versions of Each and Every One and Rollercoaster are fantastic.

Crystal Kay - Eternal Memories
Posted by Barron CreativityFilm and VideoMusicLivingJapan CommentsPermalink

We were driving somewhere the other day listening to Crystal Kay when this song came on and I remembered it from one of my favorite CMs when I lived in Japan. In fact, I blogged about it a while back. The song was actually written by Yoko Kanno who is well-known for her soundtrack work in anime and television. It’s such a great song!

Skatalites
Posted by Barron CreativityMusicLivingMemories CommentsPermalink

I had the pleasure of seeing the Skatalites way back around ‘91 at the Palace in Hollyweird and it was probably the most fun I’ve had at a show. I think it was because it was nonstop ska and dancing. By the time we left the show, we were all drenched with sweat and I was so sore the next day. The Skatalites are just super. If you can catch one of their shows, definitely recommended!

Gnip Gnop

Hot on the heels of my last revelation, this morning I figured out that Gnip Gnop’s name is Ping Pong spelled backwards. It only took 30 years to come to that realization. Another step closer to enlightenment, I guess.
