The other night we made Okonomiyaki at home. The special ingredients in one of them was yakisoba and bacon. The other one was "kim-cheesu", kimchee, cheese and bacon. It was super yummy! It's so awesome to have tasty Japanese food several times a week. I am so glad that Mariko enjoys cooking so much. :)

Mikey: I'm totally jealous, dude. I've only had okonomiyaki twice in my life. :( Did you take pictures? Do you know if any restaurants serve it here?

Barron: I took some pictures. I will add them to this post tonight. I think Origami (restaurant on I-35 and 620) has okonomiyaki, but when when we had it, it wasn't so great. Maybe next time, you can come over for okonomiyaki, or I can make extra for you and drop it off!

Matt: You guys are making me hungry. I might have to walk next door.

Sluggo: The best way the have okonomiyaki (assuming you're not in Japan, that is) is to make it at home. Just grab two or three recipes from online, get a feel for the variations, and make an evening of it. Be sure to stop by your favorite Asian market and grab some Otafuku Okonomi sauce--that's the one thing you're going to need to make it taste right... That and some shaved bonito (katsuobushi)... And some aonori... And some Kewpie mayo... *sigh*...

A good starter recipe and other info is at <http://www.otafuku.co.jp/us/resipi/default.htm>.

Personally, I'd be a little skeptical about okonomiyaki form Origami, but that's just me...

Speaking of restaurants up north, I just had the chanko from Fuji Restaurant the other day, and it was great!

Barron: You had the chanko-nabe? I was looking at that on the menu, and wanted to try, but we got some yakiniku items. Nama-biiru for $2 before 7 too! I had 3 of 'em.

Yeah, you gotta use kewpie for any Japanese food that calls for mayo... especially corn and mayo pizza. For the okonomiyaki, we mixed some karashi with it too. It was great.

Smexxy: mmm... cheese and bacon... i'm salivating right now.

Smexxy: Oh man, I commented on this without even seeing the picture. DAMN! Those omelettes look tasty!!! =)

Sluggo: Yup, Fuji's chanko is pretty good stuff. The miso-based broth was really rich and tasty. I just wish they'd dump more stuff in their nabe... It always seems like you're just getting a 'taster' of Japanese dishes you only heard of.

Regardless, I'm very glad to see them up and running, and I hope they do well enough to stay open. It's nice to have someone offering something besides sushi.
