Some friends of ours are opening up a new Japanese restaurant soon. Tonight they opened it up for us to celebrate a couple birthdays. The beef was so awesome. They will serve Kobe beef, and import sashimi from Japan. It was amazing! The ventilation system was not installed yet, so the whole restaurant was filled with smoke, but that didn't matter too much because the food was delicious!!! I hope their restaurant does well. It is very close to our house, in fact we could drive there in about 10 minutes.

Sluggo: One question... (well, maybe two): Where is this place going to be? Is it going to be "yet another sushi bar" or maybe something a little more? I'd really love it if there were something a little more atuned to an izakaya-style hangout and away from the standard American-grade sushi bar... I think you know what I mean. At any rate, I'm looking forward to trying your friends' new place. Keep us posted!

Barron: The restaurant is in Pflugerville, off of 1825 about a mile from I-35. I am not certain what else will be on the menu, but the main focus will be as a yakiniku place, with sushi and sashimi. I think they will also have ramen. I am hoping they have lots of izakaya style foods too. At any rate, I think it will be pretty authentic since the owners are both Japanese.

One cool thing is that they built their own tatami floor area (not the actual tatami mats) and I saw the ventilator hoods they were making out of wood. They were very nice.

Mikey: Tell me when it opens! I want to eat some beef tongue in shiso (I think I remembered that right) like I ate at Gyukaku in Toyonaka. If they have ikayaki, I'll buy you a big beer and share one with you.
